My Husband’s Cooking Bites Me Chapter 07

My Husband’s Cooking Bites Me Chapter 07

Thomas wasn’t nearly as bad at his job as he’d

made himself sound.

Back then, he’d stayed late with me and helped me

figure out which project I should take on.

That was a big part of how I’d managed to

outperform that supervisor.

A thought suddenly hit me.

What if Thomas hadn’t been laid off at all?

What if he’d only said that because being laid off

was part of his plan against me?

But until I had solid proof, I couldn’t let myself

jump to conclusions.

I could only hope our conversation that afternoon

had been enough to make him stop.

But the moment dinner hit my stomach, the

discomfort came back.

And I knew.

He wasn’t going to stop.

That night, I used my physical symptoms as an

excuse and only ate two or three bites of dinner.

By then, the private investigator had already messaged me.

There was a full document attached, along with an

unfamiliar private messaging account.

[Everything you wanted to know is in there.]

My hands trembled as I opened the file.

I’d already prepared myself for the worst.

But the moment I saw the evidence, I still couldn’t

stop the tears.

The file was filled with flirty chat history between

Thomas and a woman named Chloe.

The messages were explicit.

That very morning, Chloe had told Thomas she

missed him.

Thomas had replied,

[Just hang on a little longer. We’re almost there.]

Chloe was always asking whether Thomas had

slept with me.

Thomas kept telling her not to worry.

[Relax. Just looking at her makes me sick.]

[There’s no way I’d sleep with her.]

[I’m saving all my energy for you.]

There were plenty more messages just like them.

They were disgusting to read.

Farther down in the file were a bunch of IG posts

showing off their relationship.

Photos of them wearing couple outfits together at

an amusement park.

They were painful to look at.

I’d once told Thomas that I wanted the three of us

to wear matching family outfits and take Ryan to

an amusement park.

He’d brushed it off as childish.

Yet he’d turned around and done exactly that with

another woman.

Message after message.

Photo after photo.

All of it was proof.

He’d betrayed our marriage.

He’d betrayed me.

After saving everything, I told the private

investigator about what I’d found in the fridge and

how my body reacted whenever I ate Thomas’s cooking.

The reply came almost immediately.

[You want me to find out how he got it?]

Another message followed.

[You need to be careful right now.]

[Secure your assets as soon as possible and start

preparing for legal action.]

[Though given what he’s done, he probably won’t

have much ground to fight you over the assets.]

I thanked the private investigator.

Then I called Ella from my old company.

Back when I still worked there, Ella and I had been

close.

Even after I quit, she’d still ask me out for lunch

every now and then.

Thomas didn’t know that.

He thought I’d completely lost touch with everyone at the company.

Before all this, I’d never had any reason to suspect

him.

So of course I’d never gone around asking people

why Thomas had been laid off.

But now I needed more evidence.

I was going to ask everyone I could.

Ella picked up quickly.

Ella, it’s Ellie. Can I ask you something?”

What happened with Thomas? He was always

good at his job. Did he piss someone off?”

There was a brief pause.

Thomas was laid off?”

Ella sounded genuinely surprised.

Elliethat’s what he told you?”

Yeah.”

Ella hesitated.

Elliethere are some things I probably shouldn’t

get into. He’s your husband..”

But I can tell you this.”

Thomas wasn’t on the layoff list.”

He quit.
